Greg's just discovered that Margi will be in Sheffield overnight and takes the opportunity to book a room in a Southport hotel. He talks Susannah into accompanying him (not that she needs much convincing!), although Suse is a tad reluctant to ask Jacqui to cover The Shelf for her on her first day back from holiday. She daren't ask Lindsey and since she won't refuse Greg his night of passion, bites the bullet and Jacqui eventually agrees.
Following their trip to the Red Sea, Nathan and Jacqui are very much 'an item' whilst Victoria finds 17 (yes, seventeen) messages from Mark on her answering machine. He wants to talk and makes it sound as though he's coming to terms with the separation. Vic can't face him just yet, calls him and puts off seeing him until Friday.
Jacqui noticed that someone had been staying with Katie in the flat whilst she was away and was horrified (if that no too strong a word) to discover that it was Ryan.
"I thought you were going to finish with him" she starts, before continuing to explain to Katie how she is heading for a certain fall before declaring: "Katie, you could end up getting hurt."
So... Katie's got a cob-on because Jacqui isn't keen on her going out with Ryan. That's apart from being jealous of the fact that Jacqui and the yuppies had a successful holiday. Or was it because Nathan's back and she can't stand him? Or maybe it's because Jacqui and Nathan are getting on so well? Or is it because she's feeling left out and lonely? Okay, I give in - it's probably *all* of those things.
Rachel tried to talk some sense into Katie, but it seemed to have little, if any, effect.
Following the successful fete, Jackie Corkhill is dithering about whether she ought to become a hospital volunteer and tries to discuss it with Lindsey. However, Jackie nattering away about such 'trivialities' is not what Lindsey wants to hear just now - she's more interested in proving to Miss Dixon just how capable she is - and that she's quite able to sort out the builders on her own.
Lindsey and the builders. Hmm, yes. Having had no success by phone, Lindsey marches around to their yard and worms her way into the manager's office. Thinking she was a rep, Mr George, the boss, admitted that sometimes it's necessary to string clients along somewhat. *Exactly* what Lindsey wanted to hear, that! She then took great delight in introducing herself and explaining who she really was. Mr George, was incensed and said to Lindsey something that I've been wanting someone (anyone!) to say to her for ages:
"Get out, you hard-faced little mare."
Lindsey then calmly directed him to look out of the window where she had arranged for a couple of the bouncers from the Club to be loitering near Mr George's car. Fearful, of this development, he reluctantly agrees to get his men back to the Club and confirms that the works will be completed on schedule *and* within budget.
Pleased with herself, Lindsey returns to the Parade where Jacqui is waiting for her. Mr George has obviously spoken to Jacqui in the meantime and young Miss Dixon is livid, to say the least!
Lindsey doesn't accept Jacqui's criticism and tells her:
"You're too soft for this game. We don't need people like *him* trying to rip us off."
To which Jacqui responds with:
"What we *need* is a finished club."
Lindsey: "And you don't get that by pussy-footing around. I've worked myself into the ground taking care of this club while you've been poncing around with your posh mates, scuba-diving. I don't deserve this crap."
"You deserve everything you get" says Jacqui triumphantly, at which point Lindsey storms off in a huff.
No doubt, she'll be back, though! :-(
