Brookside Page updated every weekend Week Commencing 12th December 1999 This week Mike got down on one knee and asked Rachel to marry him. Unfortunately for Mike she turned him down leaving him feeling very depressed. Then the police took their new car away after it was reported stolen. Meanwhile Niamh felt she needed someone to talk to after Joey lost his job, she turned to Max for support, but they end up sharing a passionate kiss, then decided to try and forget it ever happened. Meanwhile Nikki spent her first day at Bar Brookie helping herself to a drink. Later when Jerome accused her of being drunk, she walked off to go to a party, then returned home the following day with a terrible hangover. She decided to take some painkillers but accidentally opened a bottle of tranquilizers instead.     When a young man returned Nikki's handbag, Jerome was annoyed to hear she had spent the night with him and wondered whether she was drunk the night she was raped. Feeling he couldn't trust her he packed his bags and left. As she watched Jerome walk off in a rage, she noticed Luke kissing Katie, seeing Luke leading a normal life with his girlfriend made her think about getting revenge, as she looked down at the pills in her hand. Also this week Wedding bells were ringing elsewhere in the close when Nathan proposed to Jacqui. Although stunned she happily accepted his proposal. The Musgrove were in for a surprise when Ryan brought Lia back from Scotland with him to meet her grandparents Niamh and Joey. While Lindsey and Shelley discussed their relationship and decided to stay just good friends, but it's clear Lindsey wanted more.
