Brookside Page updated every weekend

Week Commencing May 27th 2001

Jackie leavingMarty and Diane planned a family celebration to mark Steve's 21st Birthday but were disappointed when he chose Jeff's company instead. Tim and Emily also had a reason to celebrate when Tim was offered a job. Meanwhile the hostile atmosphere at No 10 finally became too much for Jackie and so she decided to move out, but not before she made her peace with Lindsey. Max was still determined to replace Susannah's headstone with one that he thought had a more fitting inscription, but Jacqui managed to convince him it wasn't such a good idea

Nikki and JeromeNikki had an unexpected proposal for Jerome this week after deciding he would have to prove he was still committed to her. Jerome though had been thinking about finishing with Nikki so he could pursue his relationship with Nisha, so was taken completely by surprise when Nikki proposed. Nikki also gave Jerome an ultimatum by telling him that he either agreed to get married or their relationship was over. Jerome realised that if he didn't want to lose Nikki completely he had no choice. Katrina also had marriage in mind when she suggested Steve could swap his birthday present for an engagement ring.

Ron and KatieAlso on Brookside this week Katie was furious when she read an article about Ron Dixon in a local paper which depicted him as a hero. Incensed by his apparent popularity Katie visited Ron in prison, where he appeared to regret what happened. Ron soon made matters worse though when he remarked that she wasn't to blame for not knowing what Clint was really like. Later after listening to Jacqui and Mike talk about Katie's visit to see Ron, Rachel decided to offer Katie her support despite Mike asking her to keep away. Jeff was delighted at the prospect of having Steve as a son in law, but he had other ideas
