Brookside Page updated every weekend Week Beginning July 4th 1999 This week on Brookside the moment of truth finally arrived for Luke Musgrove. The judge had summed up all the evidence and the jury retired to consider the verdict. Although it was only minutes before the result was heard, it felt more like hours to the Shadwicks and the Musgroves, as both families avoided looking at each other across the courtroom. Finally the jury announced that Luke was not Guilty of raping Nikki Shadwick. Luke was delighted at first but his happiness was soon shattered when he was convicted of absconding and jailed for six weeks. Luke was devastated as he felt he shouldn't have been put on remand in the first place. Back in Brookside close the Shadwicks were feeling shocked by the outcome of the trial as they found it hard to believe that Luke was innocent. However the frosty atmosphere soon got worse when Emily revealed the truth about Jessie and Alec's secret romance. While an argument between Margi and Greg ended with Greg walking out to spend the night with Susannah, giving Nikki the chance to have a meaningful discussion with her mum. Meanwhile on Wednesday wedding bells were ringing for the Dixon's, but there were concerns that the wedding may not go ahead when Ron was struck down with a mystery illness. However Ron managed to complete his vows at the wedding ceremony before making a quick exit for the door. Ron later discovered that an associate had recently died from food poisoning, giving Sinbad cause for concern when he realized that it could have something to do with the pies he had been selling.   On Friday Greg decided to spend some time alone with Susannah while Margi was away. However he was in for a shock when Jessie turned up at Susannah's house unexpectedly, and caught him and Susannah in a compromising position, with Greg wearing nothing but a small towel. Susannah tried to makes excuses for Greg by telling Jessie that he's just doing a job for her. However Jessie knew exactly what had been going on and made her feelings of disapproval known. Greg reacted by telling her to mind her own business. Later when Jessie realized that their affair must have been going on throughout Nikki's ordeal she threatened to tell Margi the truth if they didn't put a stop to the relationship. Also this week Matt and Bosko had some explaining to do after their latest enterprise was discovered and they were suspended from school. Jimmy and Jackie were pleased to have their son back home, but on Wednesday Jimmy was concerned that his career might be coming to an end. Nikki and Katrina made plans for a holiday together, while Mike was worried for the baby when Rachel became ill.
