While the Milkman is delivering the milk on Brookside close, at No 5 Bobby Grant tries to get Sheila out of bed for an early trip to Tescos. When a short while later he finds Sheila still asleep, he decides a wet flannel will get her up and about. Sheila isn't too impressed with his idea.
Heather
and Roger Huntington are also off to the shops from No 9, but they are a
little late leaving and Heather is not happy when the car alarm goes off.
Meanwhile a few miles away on the Wirral Paul and Annabelle Collins leave their house for the last time when they set off for their new home on Brookside Close.
When the Grants return from the supermarket Sheila finds Barry having his breakfast, having just got home from a night out, Karen is apparently still in bed and Damon is out with his mates.
When the Collins family arrive at their new home at No 8, Paul is
nearly knocked off his feet
by Damon and his mates making a hasty exit when opens the front door. Their
son Gordon and daughter Lucy are not too keen on their new home, and neither
is Paul, especially when he discovers Graffiti on a bedroom wall.
He suspects the boys from the Grants house are responsible, and when the bathroom is almost flooded because the toilet has been stolen Paul decides to confront Bobby with his suspicions.
When questioned by Bobby Damon admits to the Graffiti, but denies responsibility for the missing toilet. The hostile situation is defused when Barry offers to help the Collins family by finding a temporary replacement for the toilet.
Damon and his mates soon realises the error of their ways, when Bobby takes all their money to pay for repainting the bedroom wall at the Collins house, and Barry gives Damon a good telling off.
On
the following Sunday, the early morning peace and quite is shattered when
the paperboy deliberately sets off Roger's car alarm. Even though he can't
find his dressing gown, Roger has to go outside to turn off the alarm, with
only the Sunday paper to cover himself up.
Later at the Collins house Gordon is burning some rubbish in the garden while over at No 5 Bobby is struggling to start his car. Sheila is particularly annoyed at the prospect of being late for Sunday Mass, Annabelle offers them a lift in their car without asking Paul, who reluctantly agrees to help. Roger watches with interest from his bedroom, wandering what sort of neighbours they have.
On his return, Paul is in a good mood, while Lucy continues to complain about the lack of heating and tries to dampen Paul's high spirits.
After the church service Matty is also complaining about the cold, while Damon and Karen grumble about having to walk home. Bobby talks to Matty about his new neighbours, while Sheila arranges to have their house blessed.
As Damon and Karen walk through the council estate where they used to live, Damon tells her he misses living there, but Karen replies she hates the place. Arriving back at the close they both agree that going to Mass every week is a bad idea, and decide to try and persuade Bobby and Sheila to let them stay home on Sundays.
A short while later Sheila and Bobby walk through the estate, stopping
briefly at their old
house. They reminisce about old times although Sheila is glad they moved to
Brookside Close.
Paul is amused when he spots his neighbour Roger looking through his rubbish, obviously trying to discover more about the Collins family.
Annabelle and Paul discuss his job prospects, and he remains optimistic about finding something suitable before the money run's out.
Bobby and Sheila are surprised to find Damon washing the family car and he's even managed to get it started. Karen meanwhile is hoping to impress Sheila by cooking breakfast, but only succeeds in annoying her by burning the food and filling the kitchen with smoke.
Bobby suggest they all go to the Swan for something to eat, but just as they are about to leave the priest arrives to bless the house.
