Three hours of my life I'm not getting back. xmas-roll:

They went all-out to create "atmosphere" for this ghost story. Endless scenes of dark, brooding skies or rolling waves, mysterious happenings in Tom Parfitt's empty house, the heroine tormented by disturbing dreams. If they'd taken out all the unnecessary scenes, it could have been done and dusted in half the time, and might have made a nice little Christmas Eve ghost story.

As it is, I'm left wondering what was the point of the Asian family who lived across the road? Tom's rudeness to the woman who had helped him by attending to his banking needs, but who had never actually been allowed inside his house. I suspected there was something going on - had she been siphoning his bank account? But no. Her sons broke into Tom's house after he was admitted to the care home, discovered an attic room where someone had lit a fire, but apart from "I wonder who lit that fire?" again it came to nothing.

Michael Palin was good in the role of 110-year-old Tom (who claimed to be "80-odd") but he was such an unsympathetic character I couldn't help wondering why the young care worker went to so much bother for him. Did anyone else watch it?
