The Cult

 

Katie and SimonThe religious cult in Brookside Close was organised by cult leader Simon and their first meetings were held at No 5 Brookside Close where they were staying as squatters. Katie Rogers was one of the first people to be influenced by Simon, she soon moved in and was initiated into the group.

Terry and SimonIt wasn't long before Terry Sullivan became easy prey for cult leader Simon. Terry was in need of guidance and Simon persuaded him to move into his church at No 5.

All the people in the cult have had tragedies in their lives at some time or other, which is why they joined the group in the hope that Simon could help. Simon wanted Terry to buy the house so that they could have a permanent place of worship, but before this can happen Barry Grant buys the house.

As Terry gets deeper and deeper into the cult his best mate Barry tries to get him to see sense. Meanwhile it’s not long before Katie sees what Simon is really like when he tells her to sleep with Terry.

Barry and SimonBarry becomes impatient with Simon when he and his followers starts preaching about the perils of drinking and partying while handing out leaflets outside Barry’s night-club in Brookside Parade. Barry decides to try to try to stop the cult once and for all, so with gun in hand he breaks into the house but is over powered , gagged, tied up and held hostage in one of the bedrooms. Terry starts preaching to him from the bible, but Barry doesn't want to know Nobody on the close realises that Barry is missing, thinking that he has probably gone away for a few days on one of his usual business deals.

House ExplosionEventually Simon decides that since they can’t have the house then no one can, planning to make a bomb to destroy the house, releasing Barry just before the explosion. There are seconds to spare when Terry releases Barry and he gets out just in time.

After the blast Terry still stands by Simon, staying by his bedside as the cult leader lies critically injured from the explosion. Once Simon recovers, with nowhere to go he moves into the woods behind Brookside Close using a few cardboard boxes for his home.

It’s not long before Mick’s son Leo discovers his whereabouts and starts sneaking off into the woods with scraps from the Pizza Parlour to feed Simon.

Barry rescues TerryLater Terry tries to commit suicide with Simon by driving into the woods, attaching a hose from the exhaust into the car, so that with both doors and windows shut the fumes will kill them both. However Barry discovers them and Saves his mate Terry just in time while leaving Simon to his fate
