Eddie
and Rosie banks first moved into No 9 Brookside close in 1994 along with
youngest son Lee. Eddie worked in a local factory with his wife Rosie
who worked as a traffic warden. Eddies most treasured possession was a
Harley Davidson motor bike. He brought this when he won a speedboat on
the TV show Bullsye which he sold to buy the bike.
The banks moved to Brookside Close to make a
fresh start but it was not long before trouble arrived in the form of hate mail and a
brick through the window. Their son Lee had just come out of a young offenders
institution after serving ten years for joy riding. His joy riding had
resulted in an accident which crippled a young girl. The girls family
were out for revenge and it wasn't until after a violent confrontation
between the two families that an uneasy truce was reached.
Their oldest son
Carl left the army and moved into No 9 with wife Sarah and baby daughter
Rebecca. Carl had never really settled to married life and was soon dating
other girls on the close including Margaret Clemence and Jacqui Dixon
on the Close.
Meanwhile his wife Sarah wasn't getting on to
well with Rosie and after several arguments left the close to live with
her parents.
Eddie and Rosie were
both surprised when Rosie became pregnant at the age of 40, but there
happiness was short lived when Rosie was later rushed to Hospital and
had to undergo a hysterectomy.
A change of fortune was instore for the Banks
when they had a big win on the lottery. Eddie buys a new car and plans
a family holiday in Florida. Rosie still depressed after her operation spends
more and more time in amusement arcades, buying scratch cards and frittering
away their lottery winning as she becomes addicted to gambling. Before
Eddie realises what's been going on Rosie gambles away all their winnings
and puts them into debt.
Meanwhile Sarah has returned, now living in a flat in Brookside
parade now working for Mick in the pizza parade As problems escalate between
Eddie and Rosie, Eddie turns to Sarah for comfort resulting in a brief
affair.
The Banks are forced to leave Brookside close
when as a result of Rosies gambling they fall behind with their mortgage
repayments.
